Sustainability. It’s a long word with a simple meaning: Good for the earth and good for everyone who lives on it.
Builders, especially in the past three to six years, have taken steps to incorporate sustainability into the homes they’re building. Some of their motivation was legislated. But most builders took things even further.
California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Energy Code), which the state updates at least as often as every three years, mandated solar-ready residential construction and other sustainable building practices in 2019. In the 2022 triennial update, energy storage systems were added to the requirements.
