Stone is wrong on
ranked choice voting

Larry Stone says ranked choice voting (RCV) is confusing (“Santa Clara County should not adopt ranked choice voting,” Page A6, Feb. 2). The data simply doesn’t support that opinion.

RCV isn’t new. It’s been in use in the United States for over a century. Overseas military voters use RCV to facilitate remote voting. It’s used in Maine and Alaska.

RCV is easy to use. National research shows voters use RCV with no increase in error rates. Polling shows California voters understand RCV better than our “top-two” primary system.
