Antioch council to discuss new liquor stores ban, homeless housing

The Antioch City Council will consider a temporary halt to liquor store applications as well as whether to pursue state Homekey Program funding for housing homeless residents during a special meeting on Thursday.

The council meeting, which will begin at 5 p.m., will include a discussion on whether staff should prepare an ordinance to temporarily halt new liquor store applications for up to 45 days while the council decides whether to ban new ones.

On Tuesday, Councilwoman Monica Wilson held a news conference to urge Mayor Lamar Thorpe to bring the matter regarding new liquor stores before council and also start an appeals process on a use permit the Planning
