PG&E customers face higher bills as annual increase arrives, along with natural-gas price hikes

PG&E customers are staring down what will be a cold — and expensive — New Year.

An already-approved rate hike that takes effect Jan. 1 will take monthly bills higher by about $7 on average for the start of 2023, but the surge in natural gas prices will also start to appear on many customers’ bills, and that’s the number that will get many ratepayers’ eyes popping.

An average natural gas customer’s bill could jump by as much as $67 for the months of December through February as cold temperatures combine with a global increase in natural gas prices, the company has warned.
