A Q&A with Rose Parade Grand Marshal Gabby Giffords

On Monday, Jan. 2, Gabby Giffords, the former Arizona congresswoman, will turn a new corner in her life – at Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard as grand marshal of the 134th Rose Parade, but also as a messenger against gun violence.

On Jan. 8, 2011, she was shot in the head by a gunman who killed six people and injured 12 others.

But on Jan. 2, 2023, it’s clear she’s come a long way since that dark day, a parade star in front of a global audience, embodying the parade’s theme this year – “Turning the Corner.”

Her husband, Mark Kelly, will be by her side on Monday, and rest
