Palo Alto police warn residents after recent jewelry scam

Police advised residents to use caution after a common jewelry scam led to the theft of a necklace valued at more than $1,000 off the neck of a woman outside of a Palo Alto Walgreens.

Authorities received a call at 11:11 a.m. Thursday reporting a jewelry theft in the parking lot of Walgreens at 4170 El Camino Real. The victim, a woman in her 60s, said that after she had gotten out of her own vehicle, a couple in a white sedan pulled up to her and asked for directions to the freeway.
