If you lost power for hours or days during the recent storms that pummeled the Bay Area and much of the rest of California, here are some tips on what to do once power is restored.

The federal government’s FoodSafety.Gov website has these tips when it comes to the food in your refrigerator and freezer:

Your refrigerator will keep food safe for up to 4 hours during a power outage. Discard refrigerated perishable food such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers after 4 hours without power. A full freezer will hold a safe temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is
