Wintery blast brings most snow to the Bay Area since 2011

A swirling, freezing storm system from Canada pounded the Bay Area with rare wintery conditions, high winds and lightning strikes early Friday morning, dumping up to a foot of snow in some areas, toppling trees and closing dozens of roads, including Highway 17, the main route between San Jose and the coast.
