Saratoga’s tree canopy ‘took a big hit’ during bomb cyclone

(Photo courtesy of Debby Rice) Among the trees that were felled by rainstorms and high winds that whipped through the South Bay in January 2019 was this 100-foot Douglas fir that crashed through a guesthouse belonging to Debby Rice, a columnist for this newspaper. During last month’s storms, at least 13 large trees and 15 limbs had to be removed from roads in Saratoga.

When a string of winter storms hit California in December and January, several Bay Area cities reported significant damages.
