San Jose police arrest suspect accused of assault using a ‘liquid irritant’

SAN JOSE – San Jose police officers on Wednesday night arrested a suspect who allegedly assaulted a person using what authorities called a “liquid irritant.”

The assault was reported around 3:35 p.m. at South Winchester Boulevard and Loma Verde Drive. Police announced the arrest nearly 12 hours later, at 2:11 a.m. Thursday.

At 9:10 p.m., the San Jose Police Department announced on Twitter that officers were trying to negotiate with the suspect, who was throwing objects at them and barricaded.

Additional details about the alleged assault — including what the irritant was and the extent of injuries caused, and the standoff were not immediately available.
