Palo Alto: Investigation underway into rare occupied home burglary

PALO ALTO – A burglar broke into an occupied home Wednesday night in Palo Alto, police said.

Burglaries of occupied homes are rare in the city, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a statement, adding that the last one was reported in November. A suspect in that case was arrested the same day.

Wednesday’s burglary occurred at a home in the 2600 block of Cowper Street. A resident in her 80s told police she went to sleep at 10 p.m. Wednesday and awoke at 8 a.m. Thursday to find her cellphone, tablet computer and purse had been stolen.
