Support bill to
extend foster care
Re: “California mulls extending foster care” (Page A1, March 1).
Kudos to California state Sen. Dave Cortese, D-San Jose, for introducing SB 9, which would extend housing, financial and caseworker support to young adults through age 26.
This is a lifesaver bill. Cast out of foster care with no skills at 21, many of these youth enter homelessness and are vulnerable to human trafficking.
Science can verify that their brains are not fully developed at 21 to make good judgments.
