June primary election: Bay Area and top California race results

Election results will be updated after polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

NBC News projected Tuesday night that California Proposition 50 will pass, paving the way for Democrats to gain U.S. House seats. Bob Redell reports.

What to Know

  • County elections offices began mailing ballots in early May, and vote-by-mail ballots can be returned by mail, at a drop-off location, or a county elections office.
  • Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked no later than June 2.
  • Anyone mailing a ballot on Election Day should get a hand-stamped postmark from a postal employee inside a U.S. Post Office.
  • Voters will choose from an extensive field of candidates hoping to replace termed-out Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.
  • California puts all candidates on a single primary ballot regardless of party, and the top two finishers advance to the November general election.
