Highway 101 Flooding Causes Traffic Nightmare in Gilroy

An atmospheric river blasting the Bay Area has sparked a host of problems across the region, including flooding on Highway 101 in Gilroy.

Southbound lanes on the highway were shut down for several hours Friday morning, with traffic diverted on to Tenth Street/Eastbound Highway 152. Traffic along the highway continued to be slow moving even after lanes reopened in the afternoon.

During the closure of southbound Highway 101, thousands of drivers were sprawled out around Gilroy trying to find other way around the problem, but could not because every road to get around the closure was flooded at one point.
