Bicyclist killed in collision with motorist on Highway 101 in San Jose

A bicyclist died Saturday night when he was hit by a motorist on Highway 101 in San Jose.

The bicyclist was riding in the left lane of northbound Highway 101 just north of First Street when he was hit by a Mazda shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday, according to Ross Lee, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. The collision caused the man to be thrown into the center median. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The name and age of the man have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Mazda remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, Ross said. No citations
