Who is John Ternus, the incoming CEO of Apple?

Apple veteran John Ternus will take over the $4 trillion company as CEO come September 1.

“Having spent almost my entire career at Apple, I have been lucky to have worked under Steve Jobs and to have had Tim Cook as my mentor,” he said in a press release announcing his new position Monday.

Here’s what you need to know about Apple’s incoming CEO.

What does he do?

Ternus knows Apple at its core: He is currently the company’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, according to Apple’s website.
