Man Taken to Hospital After Barricade Situation, Police Shooting in San Jose

San Jose police late Wednesday night shot and killed a man armed with a machete who had barricaded himself with hostages, the police department said.

Three hostages, including two children, were safely removed from a home in the 900 block of Boynton Avenue after the shooting, police said. No officers were injured.

The suspect was pronounced dead at a local hospital, SJPD confirmed early Thursday morning.

Officers and special operations personnel engaged with the suspect after receiving a call at 8:31 p.m.

Details about the suspect, the hostages and the circumstances of the standoff were not immediately provided.

The shooting and standoff are under investigation, police said.
