San Jose woman identified as driver who died in crash on Highway 4

Authorities early Friday identified a woman who died in a three-car crash Wednesday on Highway 4 in Martinez.

The California Highway Patrol pronounced 44-year-old Kellye Van Patten, of San Jose, dead at the scene following the 4:15 a.m. crash. According to the CHP, Van Patten lost control of her Ford hatchback while going west just past the Pine Street exit.

The Ford hit the center divide, then came to a rest in a lane. Two SUV’s subsequently collided with it, the CHP said.

The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office publicly identified Van Patten. She was the second person to die this year in a fatal crash on the highway.
