In a wildly close race that generated thousands of votes, Benicia basketball player James Wong is the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for Jan. 16-21.
At the 5 p.m. deadline to cast votes Wednesday, Wong had 45.3% of the vote. Runner-up Hayden Ancheta, a Monta Vista wrestler, finished with 43.86%.
De La Salle basketball player Alec Blair finished third.
