A storm expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of rain to most of the Bay Area is forecast to arrive on Friday evening.

The rain will end on Saturday afternoon, leaving partly cloudy skies on New Year’s Eve, the National Weather Service said.

A winter storm watch is in effect above 7,000 feet elevation in the Lake Tahoe area through Sunday morning. Updates on road closures and chain controls can be found on CalTrans’ website or mobile app or by calling (800) 427-7623.
