Will inflation-weary shoppers spend this holiday season?

Louis Lee has amassed a loyal base of customers at JD Hobbies.

Over the past 22 years, they’ve streamed into his 10,000-square-foot San Pedro shop in search of everything from die-cast model cars, vinyl records and movie memorabilia, to baseball trading cards, Lionel trains and science fiction-themed toys.

But with inflation in play and gas prices still hovering near $6 a gallon, he’s not expecting a robust holiday shopping season.

“I think it’s going to be a flat holiday run,” he said. “I mean, we’ll probably have a surge on weekends, and probably during the last week before Christmas … but I don’t expect any kind of boom season.”
