The power of morning television endures as the 'Today' show celebrates 70 years

Ten years ago Thursday morning, I was bundled up on the iconic plaza of Rockefeller Center interviewing devotees of the “Today” show. I remember meeting a mother and daughter who took a red-eye flight from Salt Lake City just to be there, on the outside of the studio looking in, for the 60th birthday of their favorite show. They gave me something that’s indispensable in media: A fan’s-eye-view.Fast forward ten years, and “Today” is about to televise another party, this time for its 70th birthday.
