Average gasoline prices have hopped above $5 a gallon for the first time in the entire Bay Area — and all of California — an unprecedented increase that’s poised to fuel the region’s inflation woes.
All nine Bay Area counties, and several counties that are adjacent to the region, now report average gas prices that are perched above $5 a gallon, according to the latest AAA gasoline price survey posted on Friday.
And to underscore how widely the gasoline price ailments have spread, California now has an average price that is above $5 for the first time, the AAA survey determined.
