San Jose: Trio of overnight fires break out at school, homes across city

SAN JOSE — Three separate fires broke out across the city late Thursday night and early Friday morning, including two home fires that displaced at least half a dozen people and a school fire that has led to a person being detained and questioned by authorities, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

The most recent fire was reported at 5:59 a.m. Friday at Cornerstone Academy, a charter K-8 school on the grounds of Kennedy Elementary School in the 1500 block of Lucretia Avenue. Officials said a fire started outside and spread to the inside of an administration building.
